A Godparent who called for last minute geometry help:
Kristin helped my godson prepare, at the midnight hour, for his geometry final. Of course, he waited till the last minute to let anyone know he was in trouble and needed help. Kristin stepped in, on a moment’s notice, and gave him the best review of the material as was possible, considering the time limitation. It was not only her expertise on the subject, but her calm, gentle presentation that allowed him to get as much out of the lesson as he could. I recommend her highly to any parent whose kid needs some help and motivation.
A student I helped with Geometry:
Thank you for the work you did with me over the past couple of weeks. You were patient and helpful and never made me feel dumb for not understanding something or forgetting how to solve a problem. You made math fun with jokes and being a friendly person. You were also a true trooper with our meeting situations and noise levels, so thank you for that. I think the final went well!! My teacher threw on a crazy problem about finding the centroid of a triangle, but I was able to figure it out. It was great to meet you and tackle geometry.
The parent of a student I tutored:
You were such a blessing. S. has literally taken off in math since you tutored her.
A former classroom student:
I really can tell how much faith you have in your students and really want to thank you for always believing in me and helping me get through the year. You’ve challenged and pushed me and made me want to do extra math just for fun. I honestly am so happy I had the opportunity to be your student this year. It’s very rare for me to find a teacher who puts in the extra mile with their students and is willing to meet with me just to do extra things outside of class.
The parent of a struggling college freshman:
From the very first time they met, he seemed completely at ease, was willing to dive into the issues that he was struggling with and say what he didn’t understand, and he started doing better right away. …
She really is a lovely person and our experience with her is that she is also an excellent teacher who engages and relates well to high school kids!
Another former classroom student:
I wanted to thank you sincerely for teaching me in AP Calculus this year. I had an incredible time and I learned so much. Your class added something very important and meaningful to my [high school] experience. It was one of my favorite classes at [school]. Your class will definitely help prepare me for the classes that I take at Yale. I never really thought of myself as a “Math student” before my junior year. But I can say that after having … you as my teacher this year, I now really enjoy the subject. I will always look fondly back on the memories from our class. … I also really need to thank you for being one of the most kind and positive people I’ve met in a really long time. You were almost always in a good mood during class and were always willing to put up with my sometimes silly behavior. You helped me get through the first part of senior year, which was a very stressful period in my life.
A school principal:
I really appreciated the ease you had with the students and the way you helped C. see her own error, took time with M. (and her insecurity) and gently reminded T. that he needs to show his work.
